#DIYwithE: How to Make Midi Rings to Faux Septum Ring (4 easy steps)

4:36 AM

Hey guys! Today I'll show you the result of my mini experiment on how I transformed my unused midi rings into faux septum ring. I always handcraft things on my own since waaaay back and I've finally decided to share it with you guys. This is the first entry of my blog's new category, the #DIYwithE. I've posted a couple of DIY entries in my early years of blogging (2008, i think) in a much slower platform (Buzznet) and I'm just so happy I can finally stick to this blog and post a lot of my creations! Anyway, read the disclaimer first before starting. Hope you enjoy!

Disclaimer: Do not try this if you have sensitive nose and/ you are not sure that your rings are safe to use. I am not responsible if any body sensitivity reaction occurs. Use this method at your own free will. There are other methods in making DIY faux septum ring from scratch but this one is recycling your unused midi rings!!! I did not watch any tutorials for this. The results are just product of my own experiment. Also, I only used each ring once and I throw it away after. Experiment on your rings. Be creative. If you happen to use this method, please use the hashtag #DIYwithE. Thank you!

What you'll need:
* Long Nose / Pliers
-I used my handy long nose to cut the rings but you can opt for a pliers or anything that can cut through rings.
*Marker / Sharpie / Sign pen
-Anything that can actually mark on the rings.
*2 plastic earrings back (or ruska) per septum ring
This is optional but highly recommended if you have sensitive nose.
*Midi Rings
-You can use old or new ones, just make sure you wash it with alcohol first before wearing. The more intricate the detail, the better. I got mine from my shop and a few from Forever 21.

P.S: For those of you who doesn't know what a midi ring is, it looks like this:

Now, you're all set!
LET'S START~

STEP 1: PICK A RING
Choose a ring that you like. You might wanna pick first your least favorite in case you make mistakes with the measurement. But if you are confident, go ahead and try the best one.
STEP 2: MARK THE PART THAT YOU'LL CUT
Make sure you marked the rings that will still center the design of your ring. As for the measurement, I just estimated the size but I suggest you mark it smaller first and then cut more if it doesn't fit your nose.
It should look like this now:

STEP 3: CUT THE RING
Make sure you cut right where you marked it.
It should look like this now:

STEP 4: ATTACH THE PLASTIC RING BACK TO THE TIPS
This is optional. If you feel uncomfortable with the edges and you feel like the ring is poking your nose, just add this little plastic earrings back (aka RUSKA) to the tips of the ring.
It should look like this now:

NOW YOU'RE DONE! ENJOY YOUR RINGS!
Again, use the hashtag #DIYwithE if you used my method!
Til the next DIY with you guys! Expect a lot more from here on!

  17. This is such a fun diy project. I love septum piercings but don't think I could ever go through with having my own nose pierced. I might try this project next time I want to add a fun touch to an outfit.
